From pruning to grape-picking
For a quality wine, it is essential to take care ofits grape.
At Domaine de la Vigne Blanche
we constantly endeavour to work as close to nature as possible. Our aimis to have a very great quality grape
which will then be more apparent on vinification
.It is impossible to make a qualitywine
with a poor grape. There is no technique, addition orany kind of product which can achieve this.
we endeavour to do ourbest. Each vine plant
is worked manually 12 to 15times a year from pruning to grape-picking
The grape-harvesting season
extends from the end of the month of September to the beginning of the month ofNovember, depending on the grapevarieties
and their maturity
The gathering the grapes is done manually with a very simple instruction: « Anything you would not like to eat should not beput in the tray
», i.e. no rotting grapes (botrytis), unripe grapes, grapes damaged by wasps or birds, dry grapes or grapes attacked by acid rot (vinegar), and no leaves either!
Each bunch of grapes
is sorted individually and what is put into the tray must beflawless.
Some of our approximately fifteen grape-pickershave been
working at the Domaine de la Vigne Blanche
for 10 or even 15 years!
The moment for pruning is from mid-December onwards
. This is done withelectric pruning shears. In March, the shoots
are bent over the supporting wire.
From April onwards, the vine
starts growing and the time for disbudding
arrives. 6 to 7 buds are selected, which will form the wood the bunches ofgrapes will grow on that year.
A team of 2 to 3 persons completes the team for the year. These same personswill monitor « the leaf work » until the end of July.
In May, it is necessary to train
,i.e. pass the growing wood between the wire which will support it.
In June, trimming occurs,
when leaves facing the bunches of grapes are trimmed for better aeration in thegrape bunch zones.
In July, the « green harvests » take place: removal of the number ofbunches of grapes necessary in order to arrive at the limited yield desired.Generally, this is 600-800g/m2
for the specialities.
From the month of August onwards, the vine does its work alone and we await thegrape-harvesting seasons.
